Best Racing Game of 2012

Whether you like your racing whimsical or action-filled, there was alot to choose from in 2012. Although the racing genre lacked the originality of 2011 original IPs such as "Split Second" or "Blur": the franchises that've become synonymous with racing surely did not disappoint. Here are the nominees for the best racing game of 2012!

Wipeout 2048

When discussing action racing, there is no match to the intensity of the Wipeout series. 2048 not only matched our expectations but exceeded what was thought possible for graphical fidelity on a handheld. Although the PS Vita may have a shortage of AAA titles, Wipeout 2048 will surely satisfy any gamer looking for his adrenaline fix.

Forza Horizon

Open world gaming, realistic racing and a light-hearted presentation: this combination has never really been put together--untill now. Forza Horizon allows the gamer to tune his/her cars exactly to their demands and then use them in a myriad of trendy racing events. Honestly, who doesn't want to race a plane? Considering the 2013 Dodge Viper has an expected price of 95, 000$, the more financially friendly option is certainly buying Forza Horizon.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted

All you really need to have in a racing game is the name "Criterion" on the box cover, that almost gurantees the game is awesome. The Burnout Paradise developers have taken on the challenge of the Need For Speed franchise and have made it excel in the high-intensity cops v.s. super car mix that has made the series popular. NFSMW has a heavy emphasis on online competition and features so it is a solid choice for the less socially inept gamers out there.

LittleBig Planet Karting

As if Sony hadn't already proved its talent at making user empowering, cartoon racing games with ModNation Racers, LittleBig Planet Karting will certainly do the trick. The level editor is fantastic: allowing you to create a true racing adventure rather than just a self-contained track (how I miss those days: Diddy Kong Racing). The graphics are beautiful and the controls are on-par with the less-cute Italians who usually tie up the kart-racing genre.
